With Wayne Rooney out of the international picture of the foreseeable future, Sir Alex Ferguson has joined those championing the case of Danny Welbeck as a candidate to replace him in the national side.

Welbeck, who has been in great form this season, has already picked up a couple of England caps and Sir Alex Ferguson had this to say about his emergence,

“Danny is ready for it. There`s no doubts in my mind about that. He`s got talent as good as any forward in the England game.”

“He`s a strong lad physically and mentally. He`s got great belief. He`s confident, he`s intelligent and he`s ready for international football now.”

“Danny was always a lad with talent. We`ve had to be patient with him because he grew very tall very quickly and became gangly and suffered a few problems. But now you see he`s a massive, powerful lad. He`s only 20, so tactical awareness will develop, but he`s certainly got the technical skills.”

All we can hope is that Fabio Capello sees it the same way and then it could be problem solved.
