Although Manchester United have just the solitary Premier League fixture to play before the curtain is brought down on the 2014 / 2015 season, several of our squad will be participating in the international fixtures that are on the horizon.

However it appears that Michael Carrick will not be one of them.

The influential midfielder, who has been absent from the starting eleven for a few weeks now, has given up hope of getting fit enough for consideration for Roy Hodgson`s squad.

Speaking at the Manchester United Player of the Year awards, Carrick had this to say about his international hopes being dashed,

“I thought I might have got involved but it doesn`t look like that`s going to be the case now.”

And on his injury hit season, he added,

“It`s been frustrating, with a few niggles this year, but hopefully that`s behind me now.”

Carrick`s absence from the starting eleven has been illustrated by a change in our form, since Carrick picked up his latest injury there has been a dramatic drop-off with United, if I recall correctly, winning just the one game whilst losing several including three on the bounce.
