Michael Carrick warns his teammates to take Aston Villa seriously, especially because of the threat posed by Gareth Barry.

The Villa midfielder did well alongside Owen Hargreaves in Paris on Wednesday but his England midfield partner is unlikely to start as Roma are looming. So, it will probably be Michael Carrick’s job to hold his own against Barry in the centre midfield.

Gaz is a very good player,’ he told the club’s official site.

‘He’s got a great left foot and it’s pretty reliable, so we have to be careful when he’s on the ball and not give away too many free-kicks in the final third.

‘He’s played in a few different positions during his career. I think he started at centre-half and then played at left-back before moving on to the left wing.

‘Now he’s settled into the central midfield role and developed a good partnership with Nigel Reo-Coker. Those two work really well together.’
