Although Wayne Rooney scored from the penalty spot, in midweek over in Portugal, there are still concerns about our ability t score regularly from the spot.

It`s been pointed out, in the media, that Wayne Rooney has only scored 4 penalties out of the 9 he`s taken in 2012.

However, Rooney does still have Sir Alex Ferguson`s backing, remarking,

“The thing about Rooney is that it wouldn`t matter if it was a World Cup Final or the Rumbelows Cup first round game against an amateur team, he`d still want to score.”

“His temperament is that, if he misses, it won`t affect him and that`s important for a penalty taker.”

“That can be an issue with lots of players. If they miss, how they handle it can be a problem, but Wayne is good that way.”

But with a sting in the tale, Sir Alex adds,

“I think our best penalty taker is probably Ryan Giggs.”

“I can only remember him missing ne, but Ryan doesn`t play every week.”

“I`d have to bring him on like in those American Football games.”

Now there`s a thought!
