Playing Burnley, at Turf Moor, is always a tough proposition and that proved to be exactly the case in this fixture.

Manchester United, looking to close the gap on the runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City, had to grind out a win on an occasion whereby the points earned were definitely better than the performance given.

In a game where shots on target were at a premium, with both sides managing just two each, the first-half was a particularly dour affair.

However, the game improved in the second-half when just nine minutes after the re-start Manchester United took the lead through a strike from Anthony Martial. The goal came after the French striker smashed the ball in off the underside the bar following on from some good work by Romelu Lukaku.

Trying to get back into the game, the closest our hosts came was when a free-kick, taken by Johann Berg Gudmundsson smashed against the cross-bar.

The victory extended Manchester United`s unbeaten run in the Premier League to eight games.

However, with Manchester City beating Newcastle United later in the day, the gap between the two Manchester clubs at the top of the table remains at twelve points.
