Manchester United have defeated Lille on February 20 at Lens, according to the ruling of UEFA Appeals Body who rejected the French club’s protest concerning Ryan Giggs’ goal.

I suppose you all know what the fuss is about: Giggs scored from a free-kick without waiting for the referee to blow his whistle and Lille declared they thought it was a technical error by the ref. The lodged an official complaint that was rejected last Friday by the Disciplinary Body but they appealed against that decision.

They were rejected again as the Appeals Body supported the original decision, stating they saw no evidence of a technical error, thus declaring Giggs’ goal to be valid.

But of course it does not necessarily end here. Lille’s intentions are unknown yet but they have the option of appealing again, this time to the Court of Arbitration for Sport – but that would be really pathetic now.
