With the Conservatives hanging on to power and the spending cuts set to bite deeper into society as they attempt to balance the books, Manchester united look set to buck the trend.

After announcing, yesterday, that the signing of Memphis Depay had been secured, subject to a medical, the big news this morning is that the splash-out on the young Dutch winger is only the start of things to come.

Depending upon which paper you tend to pick up in the morning, Manchester United are set to adhere to the following:-

? Spend up to £200 million on players to bolster the squad this summer.

? Be the first in the queue to bring Gareth Bale to Old Trafford, if the Welshman becomes available, although his agent Jonathan Barnett claims the player will not be leaving Spain.

? Attempt to bring 26-year-old Mats Hummels, to Old Trafford, from Borussia Dortmund.

? Beat Chelsea to the signature of the Southampton full-back, Nathaniel Clyne.

Nothing we`ve not heard before but it is all pointing to an exciting summer for followers of Manchester United.
