Dimitar Berbatov pleaded Spurs to allow him fulfil his dream.

Our protracted chase for the Bulgarian has been all over the media yet it seems we are no nearer to an agreement than we were in June. The clubs, amazingly, still could not agree a fee while we are woefully short on attacking options for various reasons.

Berbatov is getting impatient, it’s clear: he broke his silence and told Spurs through the press to allow him to fulfil his dream of joining United. It should be good news but I feel a little bitterness about it.

Because it is Dimitar Berbatov’s fault. If it’s a dream for him to play for Manchester United, then why didn’t he seize the opportunity to sign for the club in 2006 when we were looking for a replacement for Ruud van Nistelrooy? Perhaps he’s not as confident as he’s pictured to be?

But of course it does not matter now. What matters is to seal this signing before Friday so that we can register him with the Premier League in order to be able to field him at Fratton Park. That’s the most important now, not the past.
