As probably the most famous Bulgarian playing football, at a high level, you`d have thought that Dimitar Berbatov would have been the favourite to walk off with the Bulgarian Footballer of the Year Award.

Well it didn`t quite work out like that with Dimitar being beaten to the award by the Bulgarian Prime Minister, Boiko Borisov

Borisov occasionally turns out for the Bulgarian 3rd division side Vitosha Bistritsa and in taking the accolade scooped 44% of the vote.

But, in discussing the award, he readily accepts that he didn`t warrant it and that it was merely a protest vote against the Bulgarian Football Association, remarking,

“This vote isn`t a signal that I`m the best player but that Bulgarian football needs reform and a new policy. They should annul the vote.”

Nah! Let him keep it, it`s quite amusing. I bet even Dimitar raised a smile when he found out!
