Paul Scholes has been seldom at his best this season but he deserves all praise after his scintillating performance in yesterday’s 3-0 win over Fulham. His colleague Dimitar Berbatov believes United are very lucky to have such a player on the books.

‘Nobody else in the world can play the way he does,’ he said. ‘The passes he produces all over the field and the way he changes the game is brilliant.

‘Every manager would like him. But luckily, he is here and playing with us.’

Berba added that Scholes didn’t just rely on natural ability with his shooting: the ginger maestro spends long hours practising after training, just like Eric Cantona or David Beckham always did.

With the aid of Scholes and Berbatov United are now five points clear at the top of the table and are red hot favourites for the title. However, Berba, who confessed a great hunger for his first ever league crown, insisted that we still had a lot to do.

‘We are training hard to try and get better every day, that is what you must to if you are to achieve things. We are happy to win it and be five points clear. But we still have a lot of games to go.

‘It is not the end of the race so let’s hope we can continue the way we are and by the time we finish the last game we will be top.’

Shall we end the league on top? What do you think?
