Manchester United officials have urged supporters to be in their seats by 7.45pm at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

The programme of events has now been finalised, and will begin with respective managers Sir Alex Ferguson and Bryan Robson leading their sides onto the pitch from the players’ tunnel, each carrying a wreath, to the tune ‘Georgie, Georgie – The Belfast Boy’.

Best’s 1968 European Cup-winning team-mates, together with some of the West Brom players against whom the Belfast-born winger made his debut – including Graham Williams, the first man to have the task of marking him – and Best’s son Calum will enter the pitch from the tunnel between the managers’ dug-outs.

Journalist David Meek (Manchester Evening News) will make a short speech, followed by one from Sir Bobby Charlton, before referee Mark Clattenburg blows his whistle to start the minute’s silence.

Posters of Best will also be handed out for supporters to raise during the silence.
