Sir Alex Ferguson believes the title race is wide open and considers Arsenal to be serious challengers as they are equipped to win the league.

The Gooners currently top the table, unbeaten all season so far and playing some really good football. They are most often referred to as ‘young’ but Fergie insists they have players who provide that vital experience.

‘The title race is still open, but Arsenal have made a great start and you can’t deny that,’ he said.

‘And in Arsene Wenger they have a manager who has been there before and they also have the players who have done it as well. Kolo Toure and Gilberto Silva know how to win the title, so the inexperience of some of their younger players won’t be a handicap.

‘Some of the youngsters haven’t experienced it before, but the same could be said of some of our players last year and we led the Premiership for three-quarters of a season. We have missed players this season through injury, but we have got on with it and won games, so everything is coming together well.’

We’ve already passed some serious tests, like winning games with 8 men out injured… the gooners face their baptism of fire, that’s sure: next week they go to Liverpool, the week after that the mighty Red Devils will grace the Emirates turf. And they’ll have to cope with the loss of Robin van Persie… It will be an interesting season, that’s for sure.
