After the bold statements from Fergie and the suspected ‘to hell with them’ stance taken by the clubs owners, could they be plotting to sell our best player behind our backs?

Portuguese newspaper A Bola (oh, dont you just hate em’) has today published quotes from Brazilian star Robinho, in which he admits United have approached Real regarding a swap deal involving the two wing wizards.

‘There are proposals, yes.One is from Manchester United which would be in exchange for Cristiano Ronaldo and the other is from Chelsea.’

So, can we really believe these words, are our club set to shock every single fan and sell our best player? Or, is it yet another ploy by Real Madrid to place doubt into Ronaldo’s head? I guess we will have to wait until ‘D-Day’….is it just me, or does this whole farce smack of disrespect to us, the fans who sing his name every week and fought his corner when the plethora of critics were on his back. Either way it goes, both United and Ronaldo have been extremely selfish.

However, before United fans get too disheartened, this in no way means he will be leaving, and indeed Real Madrid’s c*** of a president Roman Calderon today sounded resigned to losing out on the player he has been tapping-up for weeks.

‘We would like to have a player like Cristiano, but if he does not sign for us then it would not be a major problem. The club has said that they do not want to sell him and we cannot keep going back.’

He went on to say:

‘One has to know when to stop these things in order to avoid the frustration that the fans could feel. His club have to want to and if they want to negotiate with Madrid or any other club then they will.’

So, like I said, its not all bad news, and I still think Ronaldo will come out and disappoint the Spanish and British media by committing his future to the club…or at least I hope he does.

Perhaps more worrying is our apparent interest in the aforementioned Brazilian, regardless if it involves Ronaldo or not.

‘I have never hidden away my wish to remain at Real Madrid, but if the interest is serious I will have no problem leaving Real Madrid as the interest from Manchester United and Chelsea makes me very proud,’

Tipped to be the next ‘Pele’, Robinho has so far flattered to deceive and I personally do no think he is cut out for the nitty-gritty of the Premier League. Ive watched Madrid alot this season, and despite the amount of time defenders give their attackers, Robinho has still been rather disapointing, and certanly not the bright spark that Ronaldo gives us. He also will not give us near the same amount of goals than Ronaldo does (who would?) with just 25 goals in all 94 of his appearances for ‘Los Galacticos’.

Having said that, he IS Brazilian, and therefore is a good footballer, and i guess his signing wouldnt be the worst in the world, considering he is still relativly young (24); but I just cant help feel his signing wouldnt be a great addition to our club who already have the wing ability of Ronaldo, Nani, Giggs, Park and the new-found Owen Hargreaves.

So, what do YOU think? Are the quotes regarding Ronaldo all alot of hot water? Are we seriously in the market for Robinho? Or could this be a week in which we lose our best player?

Have YOUR say.
