For the first time during his United career Anderson Abreu de Oliveira scored a goal in a game, in normal time, not in a penalty shoot-out. It is quite amazing.

United are currently leading Boca Juniors 2-0 at the Audi Cup in Munich but the game itself is pretty uninspiring. However, it’s thrown up three firsts in the first half: Antonio Valencia got a goal on his debut which is encouraging but the biggest news is Anderson: his brilliant freekick, slightly reminiscent of Ronaldinho’s memorable World Cup effort, gave us the lead and also his first ever United goal.

He’s yet to notch from open play and in a competitive game but the sight of Anderson celebrating a goal he scored outside a penalty shootout is novelty for us – but hopefully we’ll see it more often now he’s got the first one out of the way.
