On Sunday, as Manchester United held off the gallant challenge of Blackburn Rovers to make the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, one player was once again conspicuous by his absence.

Wayne Rooney was missing from the eighteen-man squad amid speculation that he could be heading towards a move to China, with the Chinese Super League transfer window not closing until a week until tomorrow.

However, that doesn`t appear to be reason why our all-time top goal-scorer was not in the squad.

It seems that Wayne was recovering from dental surgery after having some very painful root canal treatment done.

In fact, there are doubts being expressed as to whether Rooney will have recovered sufficiently for the trip to France to take on Saint-Etienne in midweek or indeed the EFL Cup Final at Wembley this Sunday.

Let`s hope the striker is at least considered fit enough to be considered for selection for the EFL Cup Final.
