An Instance When You Thought A Proposed Transfer Deal For United Was Over But Finding Out That Might Not Be The Case

|

Sometimes the transfer tittle-tattle I stumble upon never ceases to amaze me.

Let’s take the case of the Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt.

At just 19-years-of-age, the Ajax central defender has several of Europe’s leading clubs purring at just how good he is.

Still a teenager, de Ligt captained Ajax as they reached the semi-finals of the Champions League with his side having tamed the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus, before exiting the competition at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.

Earlier this summer, with Manchester United, said to be interested in the player, I could only watch on from afar as it looked almost certain that one of the giants of European football, Barcelona, Bleacher Report were going to acquire his services.

Furthermore, I can recall covering an article Click Here that inferred United were no longer interested in the player as those who know best were predicting he’d suffer from weight problems later in his career.

But, in what could be perceived as something akin to a surprising about turn or perhaps indicative of the muddled thoughts the mainstream media convey during the times when the transfer window is open, a different scenario has emerged this morning.

According to the Telegraph United are still very much in the race to sign de Ligt with our referenced source advising that the defender will give United bosses his answer relating to a potential move to Old Trafford in the coming days.

If that is the case, then keep those fingers crossed it is a positive response as de Ligt is exactly the kind of player we need if we are to emerge as genuine title contenders in the next twelve months.
