A Shocking Statistic Emerges From Manchester United’s Defeat To Crystal Palace

|

Okay, we can debate the penalty Manchester United conceded on many fronts.

Initially, it looked harsh, a classic case of ball to hand with Lindelof having zero chance of avoiding the ball.

Then you can look at the kick itself which, initially, De Gea saved only for VAR to point out that he contravened the new ruling by not keeping at one foot on the line when the ball was struck.

Then we can argue all day that if a kick has to be retaken then a side should not be allowed to change the person taking the penalty.

But would it have mattered?

Looking at the statistics, Crystal Palace were always likely to score.

It turns out that David de Gea has failed to save any of the previous 18 penalties he has faced in the Premier League.

Indeed, you have to go back to October 2014 for the last time de Gea saved a penalty with the opposition being Everton and the penalty taker a certain Leighton Baines.
