Twenty-two years ago today Manchester United were involved in a memorable Premier League fixture.

Our opponents were Ipswich Town and Manchester United were to go on to win the game 9-0 with the goals being scored by Andy Cole (5), Roy Keane, Mark Hughes (2) and Paul Ince.

The 5 goals scored by Andrew Cole were the first time that a player had scored 5 times in a Premier League game.

It seems that the five-goal salvo allowed Cole to have a go at his critics with the striker, who Manchester United paid £7 million for, remarking,

“Ever since I signed people have been saying I haven`t been worth the money.

“I have been slaughtered. Well I have proved them all wrong.

“I`m very proud of being the first player to score five in the Prem.”

The 9-0 win still, to this day, remains the biggest win in Premier League history, a remarkable score-line and a remarkable game.
