Earlier this summer it was implied that Manchester United, in order to cure their central defensive woes, were looking to sign the Valencia centre-back, Nicolas Otamendi.

The highly-rated 27-year-old Argentine international was a tabloid favourite when it came to who Louis van Gaal would be going after.

However, Manchester United`s public admittance of their interest in the Real Madrid centre-back, Sergio Ramos, has seen other clubs start to muscle in when it comes to acquiring the services of the Valencia centre-back.

Apparently, it appears that our near-neighbours, Manchester City, are set to ret their luck obtaining the player but it is also being reported that Real Madrid, perhaps fearful of that Manchester United swoop for Sergio Ramos, are eyeing up Otamendi as his replacement.

Does anyone else fear a nightmare development whereby Real Madrid keep hold of Sergio Ramos and Manchester City snare Nicolas Otamendi?
